Internal Medicine
Gillian is a Board-certified Internal Medicine Specialist with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Internal Medicine focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of non-surgical diseases and often involves the management of complex cases where the patient has multi-system disease processes.
Many acutely or chronically ill patients may benefit from a case review by an Internist, whether it is to confirm the diagnosis or consider alternative therapy plans and case management.
Examples of conditions for which specialist Internal Medicine input is sought include:
- Anaemia or other bleeding disorders
- Other haematological disorders (e.g. thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, lymphoproliferative disease)
- Infectious disease
- Endocrine disease (e.g. diabetes mellitus, adrenal and thyroid disease)
- Chronic vomiting or diarrhoea
- Fever of unknown origin
- Coughing and other breathing problems
- Kidney or bladder disease
- Liver disease
- Unexplained weight loss
- Cancer diagnosis and treatment
- Pancreatitis
- Nutritional support
Due to the nature of Gillian’s specialty many of her patients have chronic or life-long illnesses, and quite detailed and lengthy medical records. By providing their own patient hospitalisation, KGVS maintain continuity of care for these patients.
